Boulder, Colorado
Patios, decks, pergolas, fire features, and water-wise landscape design for Boulder homes under the Flatirons. We design your yard in 3D, build it on a proper base for our foothill soil and freeze and thaw, and handle City of Boulder permits and design review.
Quality work. Honest service. Built for Colorado.
Boulder, Colorado
Boulder sits right up against the Flatirons at about 5,430 feet, higher and closer to the foothills than most of the metro. That setting is the whole draw, and it also shapes how a yard has to be built. Near the foothills the ground can be rocky and full of cobble, while other Boulder lots sit on expansive clay that swells when it gets wet and shrinks when it dries out. Either way, that movement plus the freeze and thaw we get all winter is what heaves and cracks a patio set on a thin base. So on every Boulder job I read the site first, then build the base and the drainage to match the ground, before anything pretty goes on top.
Boulder also takes water seriously, and I design that way. Instead of thirsty lawn, we build water-wise, xeriscape landscapes with Colorado native and adaptive plants, things like buffalo grass, blue grama, yarrow, penstemon, and rabbitbrush, grouped by how much water they need. Xeriscape here does not mean a yard of bare rock. It means a real, planted landscape that looks alive, holds up to the strong high-altitude sun and the dry air, and uses far less water. It fits Boulder's water rules and it fits the climate.
The last piece is Boulder's permitting, which has a reputation for being thorough, and I handle it. Some projects go through land use or design review before a building permit is even issued. That trips up a lot of homeowners and out-of-town crews, but it is just part of the job for us. I prepare the plans, pull City of Boulder permits, and manage the review from start to finish so a strict process does not stall your project.
You see the layout, the plants, and the materials in a realistic 3D design before we build a thing.

What we build in Boulder
From a water-wise front yard to a full backyard with a patio, a pergola, and a fire feature, we design and build it as one project.
Local know-how
Boulder yards come with a few things that trip up out-of-town crews. Here is how we handle them.
Cobble near the Flatirons and expansive clay elsewhere both move a patio. We read the site and build the base and footings to match the ground.
Boulder is water-conscious and the air is dry at altitude. We design xeriscape yards with native plants that thrive on less water.
The City of Boulder review is thorough and some projects need design review first. We prepare the plans and manage the whole process.
At altitude the sun fades cheap finishes, chinook winds come off the foothills, and hail happens. We pick materials that take it.
